Prepare to welcome the Year of the Snake during an evening of music, dance and friendship.

Lunar New Year is a festival celebrated across Asia, in countries such as Japan, South Korea and Vietnam, as well as China.

To reflect the diversity of this colourful celebration, our festivities will feature a range of exciting performances, from a lion dance and traditional Chinese dance to K-pop, C-pop and more. There will be try-on costume sessions, an opportunity to try Malaysian and Taiwanese food, workshops and much more, all packed full of joy and energy.

Schedule for the evening:

Living Worlds

5:30-6:15pm -- Ancient Story Telling Performance with children from Huaxia Chinese School

6:30-6:45pm -- Children sign language choir performance by Manchester China Centre

6:45-7pm -- Choir performance by Yinghua Choir, Xinhua Chinese Association

Lee Kai Hung Chinese Culture Gallery

6-7pm -- Traditional clothing try on session with volunteers from the Chinese North East Fellow Association

Belonging Gallery

6:30-8pm -- Hands on experience with Chinese traditional instrument, Yang Qin, with Huaxia Chinese School  

Top Floor

4:30-5:30 & 7-8pm -- Workshops facilitated by the Confucius Institute, panda painting and paper folding

4:30-5:30 & 7-8pm -- Chinese Calligraphy Giveaway: Have Your Name Written by a Master

Main Hall

6:15-6:30pm -- Lion dance performance by Jinlong Chinese Martial Arts Academy

7:15-7:30pm -- Traditional dance show by The Chinese Northeast Fellow Association

7:30-7:45pm -- Acrobatics by Jinlong Chinese Martial Arts Academy

7:45-8pm -- Kpop and Cpop dance performances by Manchester Metropolitan University dance society
