The arrival of their tiny sunshine flower heads in spring always fill with Helena Lee with joy for the brighter days ahead and because they provide an early source of nectar for pollinators. The leaves come after the flower and seed production in order to garner energy for the plants during the summer and autumn. Helena Lee found these leaves growing at the edge of Whitworth Art Garden. Their shape is compared to a colt's footprint, giving the plant its common name.

Helena Lee is a photographic artist living in Manchester who celebrates the beauty and wonder of nature through her artwork. Her photos are taken during local nature walks or from her own garden. All of her products are made using environmentally sustainable materials.
