The Sculpts Museum Tile: E for Egypt and Sudan

Inspired by the outstanding collections of Egyptian and Sudanese objects at Manchester Museum, this tile brings to life the popular fascination with ancient Egypt. The museum’s Egypt and Sudan gallery tells the stories of everyday life and preparations for the afterlife of the people who lived in the Nile Valley over two thousand years ago.

Early archaeologists chose to excavate temples, because they were covered in detailed inscriptions, and tombs, which held the promise of valuable items that very few ancient Egyptians could have afforded. As well as telling the stories of the most wealthy people, the museum’s collection also gives a glimpse into how ordinary people lived.

Each Tile is designed in Manchester by The Sculpts. The tiles are screen printed and hand-rolled in Stoke-on-Trent, before being fired in Manchester-local kilns.

Material: Ceramic
